Everyday People and Prayer

Have you ever looked up to someone and thought “WOW, they are so spiritual and they probably have all their prayers answered”? We probably have all had those thoughts at one time or other.

The Bible says otherwise about who can pray effective prayers.

James 5:16b…The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

James 5:17 Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.

James 5:18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. (NIV)

Here are some thoughts about everyday people and prayer:

  • We all discover ourselves in verse seventeen where it states: “a man/woman just like us”.

  • Yes, Elijah was flesh and blood like us, yet he knew God would hear and answer his prayer based on his believing.

It’s not necessary to feel special or supernatural, but it is necessary to think, believe, and talk supernatural.

Here are the reasons we qualify to pray like Elijah:

  • We are the righteousness of God in Christ.

  • We are flesh and blood like he was.

  • We can choose to pray earnestly as he did.

Even though we are everyday people our voice is heard far away in the heavens by a divine supernatural Father.

Every blessing to each of you,

Tony
