The apostle Paul was extremely focused. The reason was probably because he understood the big picture of God’s plans and purposes and how he fit into them.
Colossians 4:3 At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison—
Here are some thoughts about “Paul the focused one”:
Paul was imprisoned for declaring the mystery of Christ.
Another way to say, “declaring the mystery” is “preaching the gospel”.
Paul requested prayer so he could be effective in the very thing that imprisoned him.
He was not going to stop, he had one thing on his mind and that was preaching the gospel.
Paul knew God choose preaching to save the world from sin and that became his only reason to live.
Paul then goes on further to say:
Colossians 4:4 that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. (ESV)
Paul was not only focused on the spreading of the gospel, he also was focused on doing it with excellence.
We may do different kinds of work so we can provide for ourselves and our families, but the MAIN work we should focus on is spreading the gospel with excellence.
