Most of us probably learned how to put things away as we grew up. There are multiple things in our surroundings that need put away.
The dishes need put away, our groceries, our clothes, and so on and on… There are also things we need to not only put away but throw away, as Christians so we can live the most fruitful lives possible.
1 Peter 1:25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you.
1 Peter 2:1 So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.
Here are the things we’re told to “put away”:
Malice – “the desire to harm someone; ill will”
Deceit – “the action or practice of deceiving someone by concealing or misrepresenting the truth”
Hypocrisy – “the practice of claiming to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case”
Envy – “a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions or qualities”
Slander – “the action or crime of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person's reputation”
We are all empowered in Christ to put or throw away the things Peter mentioned. Immediately after instructing us to “put away”, Peter says to desire the Word of God.
1 Peter 2:2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation (ESV)
It’s our choice to either be immersed with the works of the flesh, or to be immersed in God’s Word. Let’s feed on the Word of God and put away the things of the flesh..
