When Not to Say Please

I was in a lovely country several years ago and taught on the authority of the believer. When I finished, I asked a seasoned man to use his authority in prayer for some sick people.

When he prayed, he asked the devil to please take his hands off the sick people. I didn’t want to embarrass him publicly so I dismissed the service and brought it up to him privately.

I asked; “Why did you say please?” He said the culture of his nation is to be respectful to all people. He was so rooted into the culture of his nation that the authority of God’s kingdom culture was negated.

It’s important for us to know when kingdom culture trumps nation culture.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (ESV)

  • The devil is no friend of ours and we never use the word please with him.

  • Please note when we resist the devil he WILL flee.

What weapon did Jesus use to rebuke the devil?
