Whom the Lord Commends

What we believe and say about ourselves is important. The grace and gifts that God places on our lives produce the most fruit when we mix our faith with them.

The best place to mix faith with the grace and calling on our lives is our prayer closet. When we trust the Lord privately in our personal prayer time it keeps us in a position for the Lord (as He chooses) to commend us publically.

2 Corinthians 10:18 For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends. (ESV)

I especially like the Message translation…

2 Corinthians 10:18 What you say about yourself means nothing in God’s work. It’s what God says about you that makes the difference. (MSG)

Here are some thoughts about the Lord doing the commending:

  • Commending ourselves is without true substance.

  • God’s approval on us is significant and full of substance.

  • We need only be concerned with worshipping Him, feeding on His Word, and putting our hand to what is in front of us.

  • The Lord will do the commending, and that keeps it clean and pure.

  • The scripture says, the difference maker is when God does the talking for us.
