It isn’t a pleasant situation when one files a lawsuit against another. The lawsuit is usually because someone committed a crime or is guilty of something.
When Adam and Eve sinned, there was a lawsuit filed against humanity. Adam and Eve were found guilty of sinning against God and God filed a lawsuit against all of humanity.
Colossians 2:13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,
· The lawsuit enforced the consequences of Adam’s sin.
· The lawsuit held mankind in the bondage of spiritual death.
Colossians 2:14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. (ESV)
Jesus paid the debt for Adam and Eve’s crime and here are some thoughts about “no more legal demands”.
The record of debt that mankind was charged with required two things to cancel it.
The shedding of innocent blood and an innocent lamb to pile our sins on.
Mankind no longer has any legal demands placed on them by God.
We have 24-hour access to His throne of grace, entry is without guilt or fear.
Let’s not place any past record of debt on ourselves, since God has removed all debt and legal demands.
We are forgiven of all past debts and free to joyfully serve Him.
